IXD 103 branding and identity
this week we reflected on feedback on some research and the visit of libraries. also the use of typography within the designs is important for a name to be successful and a brand to identify itself.
some feedback i have took on for my project is with the different types of libraries such as school, public and mobile libraries were discussed in the feedback session and what i have gotten from this was;
ulster university has a lot of signs and commands saying ‘don’t touch’ this could be misleading and therefore can entice people away form the space this was a interesting point to suggest and with this another point was that many cant keep travelling to university as for example i live quite far away form the uni so i would much rather use a local library rather than travelling.
environment was talked over such as the outside and inside of a library looks like and how this would effect the users experience. also the print outs and posters around a library can be inspiration and how they promote activities on in the place. the different types of libraries were talked over such as home and mobile libraries these can be good inspirations on how spaces can be involved. with this libraries NI are now using e-books and downloadable free books this shows the decline in many others not going to an actual library and how we can overcome this.
this naming activity was on Miro board and this was a good way in how to determine my peers and what they liked from the names i have came up with. the first name they liked was nooks and book but with further feedback this was a mouthful and needed to be shortened to ‘booknook’ or just ‘nooks’. the second was the open shelf which after looking at others this was a popular name which i may not use due to in case someone uses this but this was my favourite name from them all. finally NI book houses was third but with feedback i was told to completely get rid of NI of further developments into different countries which i took this and will not be using NI anywhere in my design.
from determining names i gained inspiration from others and may use a moody and set name such as sanctuary, archive and other spaces to do with libraries and make this into a space that has a comfy and moody feel.

tone should be shown when choosing a typeface for example when a horror book needs a type face or font normally this can be determined by the tone of the text so a dark Gothic tone would be a good way to sort for a good typographic tone.
tone of voice
the visual attitude of typography and text that can be determined to shape a brand perception. an example of this would be bold-strong tones

these documents are normally a one document currated that shows font characteristics this can have full weights and styles this is usually for advertising and design concepts.
