Typography for screen

Refection

This week we leaned about how type is displayed on a screen of different sizing and how brand guidelines comes into play. my understanding of this week was to create multiple versions of my future designs on different sizing of hardware such as a iPhone build to iPad build. to test your project is as important as launching so you can see what flaws maybe in the project itself such as how this would look in a different language which uses iconography instead of lettering ang how this would space on the screen.

Key principles

The principles of typography for screen conclude as;

Heads and bodies

headings and a body of text gives hierarchy to its main body of text and can use multiple typefaces within this.

Brand guidelines

by looking at some brand guidelines such as Belfast school of art and BBC these are what the brand uses as for example typography, logo and colour in all of these they also display the type of dimensions needed for their branding to be compatible with software and hardware forms. also a good example of layout would be the BBC website as this has a lot of space but yet none at the same time for information and since there is so much they had to chose a typeface which would fit with the overall design the typeface they settled on was Reith typeface this was named after one of BBCs cofounders. through my findings brand guidelines are a very useful tool for a companies identity and are very useful to designers to configurated new opportunities for the brand itself but still keeping the bases of the brand.

Exercises

this exercise we were asked to make this type to fit a iPad and iPhone screen to determine whether there is a difference in the type. I found out that for a bigger screen the type will be bigger than on a smaller screen such as found below. with the colour and image ones we were asked to put colour and an image into the bare iPad make which I chose to put the text at the top then the image. also we were prompted to create a scenario for either 5 year old, student or 80 year old I chose to use the 5 year old as my target as I thought this could be playful.
