UXD 104- imaging and data visualisation

research into weather websites

BBC weather

i chose BBC weather as this is the most used weather app and is trusted by many just from the BBC name attached to this. many of the analytics i will be using as a base for my own data dashboard also the use of imagery and icons is very prominent throughout the website itself. i also like the map system is a very good touch to the website itself. also this has a clear weather system and is easy to navigate throughout the website.

Met office

again with the met office i chose this as a guide for my own dashboard with the main element being imagery this is interesting and with the icons this isn’t as good as how the BBC has layout their icons and navigation system but again the analyitcs i will be using for my own dashboards as this is a great way to deep dive into what i need for my own project.

Weather underground

lastly the weather underground website is a very good website with most of its data already on the home page which is easy to navigate around the website and straight away gives the information you need as the user. again the icons are very good and simple which i hope to recreate in my own website. also the background being plain is a good design element and will be easily read.

reflection

this week was a week of researching how i am going to attack the analytics of the dashboard as i will be struggilling with this side of the project personally. the analytics isn’t my strong point but with enough research this should be okay to tackle. also with the deep dive into these three big weather websites this was a good way into what way they display their own design systems.
